En av överraskningarna som kom från Sonys E3-konferens i år var deras nya varumärke, Days Gone, ett postapokalyptiskt överlevnadsspel i en öppen värld sett ur tredjeperson utvecklat av Bend Studio. Efter dess avtäckning fick vi chansen att prata lite med Bends egna Darren Chisum, som kunde berätta mer om hur de använt prestandan i Playstation 4 och Unreal Engine för att få med så många NPC:er på skärmen som möjligt.
"We've dug deep into the power of the PlayStation 4 and the Unreal Engine, and done a lot of customised work. We're really pushing the boundaries of how many NPCs we can get on screen at once."
Horden har dess egna AI och strategi, förklarade Chisum: "The horde almost works as a hive mind. They're all focused on food and destruction and they are coming after you."
De har också sett till att det finns hjälpmedel för spelaren att använda i miljöerna: "We try to put things in the environment to help you escape. You may have noticed him throwing over barricades in the way and knocking and knocking things in their path."
"The player can take any route they want and the results will vary depending on the choices that the player makes."
